fireworks and memories
Jul. 6th, 2017 06:07 pmHydelloon stole my idea of taking and just did it in a more half-assed way. Mine's better. It has occasional commentary. What it lacks are Spotify playlists. Or 8tracks playlists. Or Art of the Mix playlists, which are the best kind. If you're going to do this, use Art of the Mix. No, I am not suffering through Hey Jude just to find out what else is on your mix.
This is for last year only. If you care about past years, go through the last few years of posts on July 6. If you want to go further back, there are some posts throughout the spring of 2010. Or maybe it was 2011.
Those are kind of incomplete. Yes, I tried to list everything no matter how embarrassing they are. No, Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock aren't on there because I dismissed them as a sort of novelty act even after hearing them only a few times. But there are songs missing that I simply forgot about.
Aliya Cycon - Sitti
Lily Black - Waiting For A Change
Honeysuckle - Josephine
Bella's Bartok - The Fiddler & The Devil
Lisa Bastoni - Weightless
Noble Dust - Relatively - the band formerly known as San Lorenzo
Box of Birds - Plants And Books
Bulldog - Bride - I noticed that the Bulldog bandcamp hasn't updated but it looks slightly different and their Facebook page says Jame will be out on August 25.
Mei Ohara - How Lucky You Are - This is a David Bowie cover. So, anyway, on the subject of anticipated 2017 albums, it's been a little over half a year since I made the end-of-the-year post. Airiel is releasing Molten Young Lovers in October. Atlas Lab is releasing their album in July. Bulldog is releasing an album in August. Ben Holton said something about a new Epic45 album. My suspicions that Scott Cortez is a secret Muslim have grown. I didn't know about Mei Ohara and Aliya Cycon but they're releasing albums in August. Not together, kupo, no matter how amazing that would be.
Mark Shilansky & Fugue Mill - The False Bride
Funeral Advantage - Body Is Dead
Analog Heart - Whoa
Phil Berman & The Flying Leap - Competition
The By & By - Some Bright Morning - I've noticed that The By & By, Betwixt, Cherry 2000, and Reflecting Skin all feature vocalists named Leah. This is a coincidence. I've heard about all of them for a few years now.
Amy Kucharik - Clocks and Bottles
Glass Mannequins - Certainty
Rhode Iceland - You, Ghost
Colorway - Come Back July
n i n a i a n - Come In Alone
LoOm - Soon
Lemon's Chair - To Here Knows When
Jack Hylton & Orchestra - Masquerade - probably the oldest recording in my collection and it shows
Henry Hall & The Gleneagles Hotel Band - Home - Actually, no, I think this might be, although you probably couldn't tell by just listening.
Ray Noble & His Orchestra - Midnight, The Stars, And You - so, there was this period in December where I was listening to the Shining soundtrack.
Krysztof Penderecki - The Awakening Of Jacob
Krysztof Penderecki - Ewangelia
Béla Bartók - Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta
Mint Green - Timestamped
Lady Pills - Eat Them
Dump Him - Sick Sad Life
Caskets Filled With Flowers - Hey, Hey Girl
Chelsea On Fire - Carousel
Arc Iris - Singing So Sweetly
And The Kids - Tonka Trucks - this song never ceases to make me smile.
Loquat - Swingset Chain - okay, okay, this is a song from a long time ago, but it is about having a friend move away.
Radiohead - True Love Waits
Stretch Princess - Shoes - there's a theme here of "songs that in some way remind me of Leah"
The Curtain Society - Across The Universe - well, apparently, it's the first result for "songs about friends leaving." I also like the Fiona Apple cover from Pleasantville. I think Chantel and Tara were fans of her.
A Winged Victory For The Sullen - All Farewells Are Sudden
Tori Amos - Josephine
The Boys From Syracuse - He & She
Arnold Bax - Symphony ﹟3
Arthur Bliss - A Colour Symphony
Henry Cowell - Symphony ﹟2
John Corigliano - Fern Hill
Maurice Duruflé - Requiem
Erwin Schulhoff - The Communist Manifesto
Kati Agocs - The Debrecen Passion
Tan Dun - Passacaglia: Secret of Wind and Birds
Michael Gandolfi - The Willowtwist - it's the only part of the Garden of Cosmic Speculation I can find on Youtube but it's my favorite part.
Ottorino Respighi - The Pines of Rome
Gonzalo Grau - Elements - Unfortunately, no recording exists of this.
Emma Lou Diemer - Three Madrigals
Beau Kenyon - and all the men and women merely players
I've found I've been abandoning chronological order and grouping songs thematically
what time is it, Mr. Fox? - the ladies tree
jaggery - spiral staircase
petaluma vale - gooseberry girl
Sarah Rabdau and the Self-Employed Assassins - Self-Employed Assassin - It's a great song but don't recommend a song about murdering someone for not loving you back to people. Just saying.
zdravets - Devojče, devojče - if you're wondering how I do that thing over the c, I find a č and copy-paste it.
Nouvelle Vague - Ever Fallen In Love
Zero 7
Fela Kuti - Gentleman
Federator ﹟1 - Wake Up
Tori Amos - Space Dog - Even the very least observant would notice two Tori Amos songs. Josephine I listened to at least a hundred times for reasons I don't feel like getting into. Space Dog is because I listened to Bells For Her when I found out it's about a friendship ending, loved it enough to check out the rest of the album, and then fell in love with Space Dog. It really does reflect how I'm feeling. Seems . Those of us who have been here a while would know that I've been listening to Tori Amos for a lot longer than a year.
Miles Davis - Jeru
Dave Brubeck - Blue Rondo a la Turk - That's not to say I'm not grateful.
Sun Ra - Door Of The Cosmos
Henryk Gorecki - Symphony of Sorrowful Songs
Iustina - In The Light
Go Sailor - Together Forever In Love - quite possibly the only good thing to come out of a Mike Pence vice presidency and his conversion therapy.
Tattle Tale - Glass Vase Cello Case
April March - Chick Habit
burning question: who sells individual bandages?
