There's evidence that one of the mass extinctions was caused by a fairly close gamma ray burst, possibly from a supernova. Three things happen: nitrogen seperates from oxygen in the upper atmosphere, the oxygen reacts with the ozone and annihilates it, causing land creatures and surface-dwelling fish to die a horrible death, the nitrogen reacts with something else and makes fertilizer, and the sky turns brown. Doesn't that make you feel so happy? No? Tough.

Yes, this is pretty much a filler entry created from the desire to have the mood of Tabris correspond to the one day where my probability of talking to Tiang and one of three things (said three things: the reconciliation, gestalt collapse in an explosion of angst and anthropomorphic choo choo trains, or I don't say anything to her) happens is not zero.
