Interlude: Roses and October
Oct. 1st, 2008 12:08 pmWait a minute, it's October? Feels more like early September. There are a few roses, some petunias in bloom, some not-dalmatians, some purple flowers that look like members of the nightshade family, pansies (but I've seen pansies in the middle of November), birds singing and getting into places where they shouldn't be, with only mushrooms, the occasional yellow leaf, and crab apples fermenting on the ground to remind me that it is in fact autumn. Beanerd said it would be cool to see a rose amongst yellow and orange leaves. I agree, and I hope it lasts. At least a not-dalmatian or the other kind of not-dalmation that Adara had before (I'm not calling this one Journey's End because it's an interlude with things that should be said). Basically, if you don't like autumn, then you suck. Summer lasts long enough for you to get sick of the humidity and heat.
lesson learned: roses can bloom this late in the year.
other crap. Do it if you have last.fm and you want to, ignore it if you don't have last.fm and
burning question: what are you doing without last.fm?
. How did you get into 29?
Gustav Mahler: I heard the third symphony on the way home from New York.
2. What was the first song you ever heard by 22?
Pearl Jam: It's been a really long time, like in 1996, but I didn't really get in to them until 2000, so I don't know. My best guess is Jeremy or Evenflow.
3. How many albums by 13 do you own?
I don't know; it's in Japanese.
4. What is your favourite track by 15?
Pale Saints: Featherframe
5. What is your favourite track by 5?
Slowdive: Souvlaki Space Station - Someone described it as lightly tossing a distorted guitar in to a space-time continuum. I'll agree with that and I love the lyric "closed doors bring open minds" and I wish Firefox would stop shitting itself.
6. Is there a track by 6 that makes you happy?
lovesliescrushing: sort of puts me into a lulled state, I mean, I love them to death, but they're not the kind of happy that Magnetic Fields.
7. What is your favourite track by 10?
Dead Can Dance: Persephone (the gathering of flowers)
8. What is a good memory you have involving 30?
July Skies: I seem to discover the most beautiful music when things are at the worst, so I don't have any. At least with The Emerald Down and lovesliescrushing I can say that things are better now.
9. Is there a track by 19 that makes you happy?
World's End Girlfriend: Birthday
10. How many times have you seen 25 live?
Talk Talk: 0. I mean, they broke up back in the early 90s, didn't they?
11. What is the first track you ever heard by 23?
Airiel: Rainflower. Fell in love instantly.
12. What is your favourite album by 11?
Movietone: Movietone. It's one of those almost-perfect albums.
13. Who is a favourite member of 1?
Eyeless in Gaza: Martyn Bates, although I won't deny Peter Becker's importance.
14. Have you ever seen 14 live?
Japanese stuff: No. I know I haven't. The thing I hate about the brave new world of today's last.fm is that it won't automatically convert the stuff to Latin like it did. I can read Latin and Greek (being a physicist helps), and I can sort of read Cyrillic and actually understand a bit of Chinese.
15. What is a good memory involving 27?
The Emerald Down: Are you fucking kidding me?
16. What is your favourite track by 16?
I don't even know what that is.
17. What is your favourite album by 18?
Curve: Pubic Fruit. Coach Z is hard to resist.
18. What is your favourite track by 21?
The Flashbulb: If Trees Could Speak...
they'd say very mean things.
19. What is the first track you ever heard by 26?
The Magnetic Fields: Lovers From The Moon, back when the Adventures of Pete and Pete were on. I didn't realize it and loved 100,000 Fireflies back in June.
20. What is your favourite album by 2?
Cocteau Twins: Treasure
21. What is you favourite track by 3?
Radiohead: I like Videotape a lot. Maybe if they asked for a good memory associated with Radiohead instead I could name a bunch, but, noooo, I get Emerald Down instead.
22. What is you favourite track by 8?
Amp: Sunflower. Or you could ask for a favorite memory of 8 instead. Melatonin Red is great too. And Celestialreturn.
23. How many times have you seen 17 live?
Cold Fairyland: None, because they're from somewhere only above Switzerland, South Korea, and North Korea on my Places To Visit List. Althogh China does have monkeys, so that might give them an edge over Austria, Belarus, and The Ukraine, especially after that election in Austria.
24. What is the worst track by 12?
Placebo: The thing about them is that there's a few songs I really love and a bunch of songs that are kind of meh... hmm, I didn't like Running Up That Hill that much.
25. What was the first track you ever heard by 28?
Akiko Shikata: Expressive Hill from Ar-Tonelico. That's why I know of her. Check out her solo stuff.
26. What is your favourite album by 7?
Flying Saucer Attack: Rural Psychedelia, if only for My Dreaming Hill and the two Popol Vuh tracks. I'd probably say New Lands otherwise.
27. What is your favourite track by 24?
Hooverphonic: Renaissance Affair
28. Is there a track by 9 that makes you happy?
The Future Sound of London: Mango Tree, because mangoes are awesomeness in a fruit.
29. What is your favourite album by 4?
Lush: Split, although Spooky has Monochrome.
30. How many albums do you own by 20?
The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa: none, I mean, they're Czech, where am I supposed to buy them?
