The Codex Seraphinianus, as it is the only book that everyone can enjoy to some degree, regardless of age, languages understood, and literacy level. Also, any book that kills fascism.
A lot of people say the dictionary. Yes, it tells you what words mean, but it doesn't help you string them together in any meaningful way. That goes doubly for the thesaurus.
Other books I considered
Gormenghast
Little, Big
House of Leaves
Ulysses
Veniss Underground
Palimpsest
Memoirs Found In A Bathtub
Soldiers of Paradise
Good luck finding those last two. I thought Momo was a good suggestion. I confess I've not read it, but I like the idea behind it.
Fun fact: Even if your browser crashes, it still counted as posting. I swear I didn't press anything, nor give it a mood, nor actually write anything aside from that html for questions of the day.
Also, I know I didn't put Day 9 of that thing up, but if the person I stole this from can break these up with song lyrics, Gormenghast quotes, questions from an entirely unrelated quiz, Worker and Parasite, and a photograph of her vomiting up fish eyes, then I can do this. Do I make myself clear?
Burning Question: Should the state be run according to the whims of an enormous Wheel of Fortune with various budget items written on it?
