or "an apocalypse of fishes"
or "why I want to punch Iyad Ag Ghaly in the face"
There is a door in Timbuktu that has remained closed for centuries . Thinking the revolution being hijacked and making Tuaregs choose between Malian racism and Saudi asceticism was misfortune enough, someone stole the door.
And Wednesday's storms were his fault. Way to bring my mood down after those events in Damascus, fuckface.
I was hoping that the worst thing about the concert would be wearing shorts instead of pants. Instead, it was canceled. This sucks really hard because it was an interesting one. It also sucked because I only had some water and four cheezits. I wish it was like last year, where it was blue skied and clear and we had it in the Lesser John Hancock Building and it turns out there were thunderstorms later and it even rained fish in Arlington. They weren't anglerfish and rattails and chimaeras, just ordinary shallow water ray-finned fish. I did see Matt, though, and we talked about The Dark Tower and raccoons and online identity and stuff, so it wasn't all a loss.
To Youtube!
Caribeña: He's from Uruguay. You-Are-Gay. What a country. I wonder why they kept that in the Spanish version; it doesn't make any sense there! I'm only making Simpsons references because I can't find this thing anywhere.
Polovitsian Dances - I have this. With vocalists. I know I've heard it before. Well, I know know I've heard the first part before, it was on an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon, for fuck's sake. But the other part, it's familiar and I don't know why.
Marquez - Danzon #2: There's a video, or rather, a still image of the album cover. It's pretty cool.
Mambo from West Side Story - at least they had a clip from the film. It kind of fits the Damascene mood. Meanwhile, I'm soaked, exhausted, and hungry.
En Memoria de Chano Pozo - this recording SUCKS but I like the music. Maybe if it didn't feel like he was playing over a Seefeel song, I'd enjoy it more.
Viaje from the Afro-Caribbean Suite - Gonzalo Grau - also doesn't exist.
I feel like there should be an encore. Like Señor Burns or something.
A brilliant idea courtesy of Michael Swanwick: we send all the survivalists phony newspapers and rigged radio broadcats and staged conversations about how the price of gold is falling like it's wearing concrete galoshes. What I wouldn't give to be even half as witty as Michael Swanwick.
Seen on the Red Line: someone wearing a shirt with Dr. Who as an owl. No, I can't find a picture. Just picture a cartoon owl walking in to or out of a police box/TARDIS. Trust me on that. If I was hallucinating, I wouldn't hallucinate Dr. Who as an owl.
Burning Question: Why do world leaders seek to solve every problem by having it killed? Can't they craft a world where we can all just get along?
