I was thinking about the Pioneer 10 plaque and the record on Voyager. Some of the controversy is quite amusing. Yes, I agree that it's incredibly difficult to decipher, even for humans. The controversy over the drawings of the man and the woman would be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic. The interesting one is about malicious aliens finding it. Well, they're probably not going to find it, although they will get the bulk of our TV and radio signals, and if they do invade, it's either because they finally deciphered some broadcasts from the 1930s and 1940s and don't think that we as humans can be trusted to make physical contact with another spacefaring civilization if we can't even treat our own (human and dolphin) properly, or we canceled their favorite TV program, much like Futurama.
