cyclic states
Oct. 21st, 2022 05:23 pmSprout is exactly as I remember it, that is to say, pale green and festooned with cobwebs and red-eyed rubber spiders the size of bicycle wheels along with Death. Castlevania Death, not Sandman Death. I recognized one of the songs played on an accordion, which was La Mer. Not that La Mer, the one that usually has the vocals. That thought came to me while listening to Big Thief’s Little Things, which I had to look up. At Sprout, I got a Yucattan (sic), which is a salad of arugula, warm quinoa, red onion, corn, roasted salmon, sumac, cilantro, tortilla chips, and a mix of hot sauce and lemon vinaigrette dressing. Yum. And they’re always generous with their portions.
They didn’t open with an overture of any sort because they thought it was already long enough.
Beethoven - Piano Concerto no. 4
I actually did see this one back in 2016 but for whatever reason neglected to mention what Beethoven work I was talking about. This is the first concerto to open with the soloist and not the orchestra, because back then, they were like “get to the bloody point!” The soloist and the orchestra open in two different disparate keys.
It was the very last concerto Beethoven performed for an audience. It premiered along with the 5th and 6th symphonies and the Choral-Fantasy.
They were recording it and all of a sudden there’s pressure to not cough or sneeze or drop the program or trip or forget that there are multiple movements and start clapping. If you think you might cough, wear a mask. It’s helpful against pangovirus too.
The encore was a bagatelle by Beethoven, which are extremely open to interpretation.
I saw this a couple of weeks ago but Zander gave his talk on it so here are some more insights.
The second movement plays its motif, then it is buried under a series of fanfares, and then it recapitulates in an odd key.
The third movement never really repeats itself.
Most of the 4th movement is typically cut. Rachmaninov was okay with this, though he never did it when he actually conducted it. He compared it to having flesh cut from his body.
Some versions have cuts made, some versions have fewer cuts but play at a faster tempo, and the speedrun record was done in 38 minutes.
burning question: who is dumber, Elon Musk or Kanye West, or “Ye” as he prefers to be called? Or is it a tie? Maybe Vox Day feels left out and got scammed out of a million dollars.
I think Kanye genuinely believes in the shitty things he says.
I think the Republicans are trying to court Kanye and encourage him thinking it will lead to turning other black people to their side but I’m pretty sure Kanye’s biggest fans are white people who listened back in 2007 to get hipster cred.
