things gone and still here

Six of them were transferred. Number VII is doing well. Jean said she didn't think VII would make it when we got him/her.
Not my picture. I was in a hurry and wasn't able to bring my camera.

I got to see a baby great horned owl. It mostly looks like a muppet, but it's starting to get its flight feathers. It clacks at us when it's pissed and it chirps otherwise. It eats mice. We're going to hopefully insert it into another great horned owl's nest, since owls aren't in any way wise and can't actually count.
Someone mistook an adult (but battered) screech owl for a baby great horned owl. The horned owl is bigger, despite being a baby.
Garter snakes are longer and floppier and more ornate-looking than I expected. The one we have was attacked by the vet's dog. Christina says it's ironic but I'm not so sure.
Someone brought in a dead turtle. Diagnosis: uh, it's dead. It has no face.
Not sure what happened there. Someone couldn't accept it or it died on the way or he just couldn't tell.
Also, a guinea pig got a bladder stone removed. This involves pulling out the urinary bladder, cutting it open, taking the stone out, flushing out all the sludge and other things that shouldn't be in there, and putting it back. In his case, the stone was made of calcium compounds, and under a microscope, they look like spike balls. Something about regulating the amount of calcium they take in. Also, they have a lot of gut and very small lungs.
I missed a castration but I've seen a bunch of those already.
So many burning questions, such a lull. Hm, I better ask this one while it's still relevant. Oh yeah, there's a thread where they're quoting from the stories and someone described it as simultaneously overwrought and strangely robotic. Yeah, that's pretty apt.
burning question: Why did Vox simply reuse the cover from The Last Witchking (the one with the CGI castle that might be passable if it was 1994) if it's clearly meant to evoke the evil Witchking castle?
