Just so you know, I did take some rather good pictures, but you'll have to wait until the middle of next week or so to see them. It wasn't the best day for taking pictures but I wanted to get the photos of the Tater Day launch sign while I could, along with showing the painting I did of Sara to Ian (and Jean and Désireé).

Zach was building the launcher. Lots of piping and the smell of glue. And that was probably the worst smell I encountered today. Yes, it's been raining on and off since Monday, but it's late in the year.

What I saw was the euthanasia of a herring gull with what looked like part of its wing was shorn off. In any case, it couldn't fly anymore. The fracture was too close to the joint for a pin, and there were secondary fractures too.
I guess they don't use CO2 because it's expensive, not that it's inhumane (it probably isn't), Anyway, you can't just inject something directly in the heart with these guys because the keel's in the way, you have to inject it into a leg vein or a wing vein or the jugular and hope it works. It takes a minute or so. Their heart speeds up and they go into cardiac arrest.
Once they sent a gull with one leg out into the wild and it did pretty good. This guy, though. Nope.

Males and females alike have the lipstick spot on their beaks. And thus we can't tell male from female.

Brody says everyone feels like they're just going to be in the way. There were a lot of interns and a tour group.

Also, a bunny got his leg in a splint.

There was a baby screech owl but I didn't get any pictures of that.

Someone brought in a chicken or something.

Ian did get a kick out of the cat attacking the camera (see my previous entry). I was mostly worried that Instagram would hate me. And hate me Instagram did, but Instaview or one of very many sites that function as instagram with a tag search worked so ha.

I have to paint Désireé at some point. I might go for realism, but she liked how expressive and exaggerated my People of the T sketches were so I could do that too. And she did have blue hair once. Not now. It's more brown now.

Anna (Анна, she actually was born in Moscow) looks like Melissa or perhaps Shannon (but Shannon is German). Without the green hair, of course. She doesn't have a Russian accent but she can do a pretty good Apu one.
I think Apu is Kannada. Depends on how late into the Simpsons' run you think canonity goes.

They were testing the fire alarm, which let off an ear splitting noise that reminded Anna of a song that wasn't by Merzbow.

On the bright side, they're not going to drill for oil in a UNESCO park in the DRC, because that's what you do with UNESCO heritage sites: smash them up while searching for oil. On the bad side, poachers better armed than most armies are killing elephants. At least they didn't use cyanide.

I don't know if I ever brought up Capgras' and Cotard's Syndromes, but
Désireé was talking about people who were unable to recognize faces but can still form emotional connections with the person, and she's familiar with Capgras' syndrome, in which the victim can recognize someone's faces but can't form an emotional connection with this and will rationalize this by thinking the people around them* are robots or impostors. I know what Cotard Syndrome is but I'm not sure how it works. There's another one that causes people to be unable to recognize themselves in mirrors, and they'll think there's a duplicate or impostor. There's one that causes people to think people around them are really just the same person in disguise.

*if "they" as a singular is good enough for Shakespeare…

burning question: Just who the hell named the Russian blue?
