There are some new volunteers. A good thing too, as we were out walking the goats (Tom compares it to herding cats, and also said goats are kind of in between horses and dogs, and says Gallop likes humans but not human, while Penelope likes the taste of human flesh), and Nina (who says that Penelope starts out nice but becomes self-conscious about the fact and starts headbutting) noticed a fledgling starling near my foot. We're wondering if it was recently released from the center because he wasn't afraid of us. And Jessica is back for a while, and so it feels like summer in climate and in mood. We had Skinky in the grass and the bird apparently found his way from the woods to the front door of the wildlife center. Or maybe it was a different bird. Who knows?

Yeah, her name is Nina. That makes things kind of annoying. I know there are multiple Jessicas but they'll never be mentioned in the same entry. At least, I don't think they will.

Also, goats like watermelon. We called a peace offering but we know Penelope will forget it a half hour later. Pushing them away when they headbutt doesn't seem to help. I think Penelope just wants to win. Penelope is a feminist goat but Nina is a feminist person. I'm not sure how surrender works in Goatistan.

Also, turtles require water to swallow food, while true tortoises have moveable tongues. I did not know this before today.

A lone duckling is getting fostered because ducks don't count their children and they're really just a bus driver that shows them where all the food is. There are ducks out there with 30 babies.

I can't decide if I want Israel to join the fight against ISIS. On one hand, it will prove to the world what frauds Nasrallah and Leila Khaled are, on the other hand, Maliki and Assad will remain in power for the rest of their lives and probably for the rest of ours.

I can't decide whether D. Keith Mano's The Bridge is an inane polemic redeemed by some cool imagery or an adventure novel with some cool imagery ruined by inane politics and the occasional misused word.

Or maybe it was Keith D. Mano. Who knows?

Burning questions: Do you want ants? Because that's how we get ants!
