Good news everybody! It's the day of the earliest sunset (You can ignore this if you're not around 42º N latitude. Tallinn has its earliest sunset somewhere around the 17th of December. In Tiksi, the sun doesn't rise at all. In the southern hemisphere, the earliest sunset is in June.), at 4:11 PM. The days still get shorter until the solstice, but why the sunsets get later, I do not know. I looked it up once but damned if I can remember.

Usually at this time of year, it's 45 and cloudy or 30 and sunny. Instead, we got the worst of both worlds. Holy shitsnacks! It was even cold at the Wildlife Center.

On the bright side, Nina brought her pet African lungfish. It's one of eight extant species of sarcopterygii. They have a pair of pelvic fins and a pair of pectoral fins with five sets of bones each, and that's why we have four limbs with five digits each. They have very simple lungs and most species don't have functional gills. Fluffy, the lungfish, is capable of biting and jumping three feet into the air. Some kids, who had their pet anole with them, thought it looked like an eel.

It's also the name of a song by Cherry 2000, an album I've been meaning to buy one of these days.

One of them wishes she had eyes that moved independently of one another. We can do other things, though. Like write. In fact, they have a teacher who had them go through an afternoon without using their thumbs, which makes even simple tasks like writing and opening doors very difficult.

We said goodbye to the first bluebird I've ever seen in my life. He'll never have enough feathers to survive in the wild, but he'll do fine in captivity. He'll eat out of people's hands and sings all day. I guess it's fine that he does because we had no intention of ever releasing him into the wild.

burning question: is there a way to temporarily project my consciousness into someone else? So I may see Sana'a before the Houthis burn it to the ground?
