80 days until the Vernal Equinox
It's a play on "on mortality and change," a title which I hope I never have to use. At least, not for a long time.

This may be the last entry of the year, depending on what I do tomorrow.

I saw someone's pet panther chameleon. Once, Nina fed him a cricket and he knocked it back really far.
Someone is raising hatchling radiated tortoises, which are critically endangered (because of habitat loss) tortoises from Madagascar (that makes it obvious that it's habitat loss). The oldest one was 188 years old. Old, yes, but not as old as the oldest tortoise ever, who died at 255. Sponges can possibly live up to 2000 years or even longer than that. I guess it's because sponges are so simple. They don't really have systems or anything.
He's also raising what are either Herrman's Tortoises or Greek tortoises.

Nina called the wildlife center a big dysfunctional family.

Zofia, who is Polish, which is geographically close to Hungary** but not linguistically (to her I described Hungarian as 'it sounds like what Ethiopians* think Europeans sound like'), and has cats named Byron and Nibbles and can live on Simply Asia teriyaki and overuses the word 'cute', dropped mouse tails in the turtle pond.

*Maybe Chinese or Somalis*. Everyone else has been exposed to too much English**, French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese or Russian.
*If I had a Somali cat, I'd name it Bryaxis or Long John Silver or Redbeard or Captain Hook or Grainne O'Malley. Bileh, who was an actual Somali pirate. Anyway, it's probably more likely that Somali attempts at European languages would sound like Italian.
**Despite the way they present themselves, England is in Europe.

**The Hungarian equivalent is Zsófi.

Keith quoted Monty Python because of Salem. True fact: If Zofia weighs as much as a duck, she's made of wood, and is therefore a witch.

Maybe I'm thinking of another Central American country that has problems with death squads and such. I think I was, although Nicaragua had a messy civil war back in the 80s. I'm right that Nicaragua banned abortion. What I didn't know is that Nicaragua was under a hard rightist government at the time. The Sandanistas are too busy cosying up to the churches and Iran to change things, alas. Zofia pointed out that there are people in this country who would love a total abortion ban too.

The blue-and-yellow macaw said hello to me. There was an African Grey in there as well and I'm saying hello to it. He doesn't respond but the macaw did.
Nina told Zofia to not mess with the African Grey if she likes her fingers. I think the macaw was laughing at her.

So I kinda know this guy who's an amateur filmmaker and actor and he shares his name with a guy who's in a lot of shitty Adam Sandler movies and I honestly thought they were the same person.

burning question: is it sad that I can no longer tell the difference between posts on Democratic Underground and posts on Free Republic?
