16 days until the vernal equinox

I voted for Warren today. And they had some really good Bonart Sweeties Chewy Candy. I'll vote Bernie or Biden in the general election with the caveat that I will vote for Elizabeth from the text adventure Theatre over Trump and her policy would most likely involve sacrificing Bashar al Assad to Lovecraftian gods and feeding him to Vladimir Putin. She'd get my vote with that. Michael would vote for First Citizen Lynette over Trump. At least she'd pick a vice president who can be reasoned with, who will go behind her back on all the important things.

Olivia was eating farro, arugula, walnuts, apples, and parmesan, which she pronounces with a /s/ and not with a /dʒ/ and Nikole makes fun of her for it.
I’m not blaming Olivia, I’m blaming the fact that English insists on not using diacritics except in the occasional loanword and even got rid of eth and thorn. And wynn, although that was just /w/ before there was a double-u. And æsc. And yogh. I’d say something about preserving spelling but in the case of parmesan, it comes from the Italian Parmigiano. So fuck you, English.
Olivia is Scottish and Welsh and Portuguese and Czech.

Kasim is Nikole’s dog. It’s not Farsi for anything, it’s Arabic. It’s the character to a movie Nikole liked as a kid. She met a dog named Crixus. Every name has to have a meaning to Olivia.
She says that spices are a good thing to name your dog after.
Olivia met a giant dog.

After the initial Turkish drone war in which Syria got caught with their pants down, my optimism has once again faded and much of Syria is looking at 20 more years of Bashar, 5 years of The Tiger, and about a half-century of Russian and Lebanese mercenary-kings, Kurdish kampucheas, and military fiefdoms, all vying for control of a bunch of abandoned buildings. I was hoping Russia would take the L and either give up on Syria or adopt the Chinese system of playing nice with the new guys. China’s policy is “you can have whatever system of government you want, but we own you" and I'd take that over the American or Russian policy. China may be a horrible dystopia but it’s only a horrible dystopia within its borders. Meanwhile, Russia is a kleptocracy and wants their client states to be similar to discredit their own democracy activists. The United States of America is mostly functioning democracy that suffers from an archaic and outdated political system. See: the electoral college. See: lack of ranked choice voting especially in primaries. Their policy towards client states can be summed up with "democracy is a privilege that we will take from you if you don't vote for the socially conservative free market parties."

Syrian soldiers are using ambulances as transports so that Turkey doesn't bomb them. Law means nothing.

There are Greek fascist organizations fighting in Syria. I'm sure it's a coincidence that Greece is forcing NATO to stay its hand.

Michael says that the lesson we learned from Augustus is that if you don't pay your soldiers, they won't fight for you. However, the lesson we learned from the Thirty Years War is that soldiers can sustain themselves through plunder. Besides, they don't need to be paid. The Syrians are all about "Bashar or we burn the country down," the Russians are keeping the world safe from democracy, and the Lebanese and Iranians are fighting a holy war. And the Greeks are still fighting the Trojan War. Michael says that Belarus had a dispute with Lithuania over its name, which makes Greece the Belarus of the European Union. The Houthis, who are little more than troglodytes wearing human skins and waving flags with KILL DA JUDENS on them, probably fight on instinct alone.
The funny thing is that Russia is basically telling everyone else to know their place and keep their place. Greece and Cyprus I can kind of understand because they are arguably eastern European. But Catalonia. But they're trying to gain a foothold in Libya and Mozambique and Central African Republic. I guess it makes sense because they've lost Israel and India a while ago and pretty much every other SSR hates them aside from Armenia and Kazakhstan. Doesnt help that they're carving out dummy states.
Long live Sudan. Long live The Gambia. Long live the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Long live Ethiopia. Long live their nascent democracies.

May The Tiger be in Azath-Ko next time I post.

burning question: How dumb do you have to be to think the coronavirus and the beer and the constellations are related?
