I haven't been to the MFA in a long while. Part of it is because I had zero interest in the Basquiat exhibit. I learned that the Lucian Freud exhibit probably didn't get extended because most of the paintings were in private collections.
I thought about announcing that anyone who can untie my shoelace will be made supreme Khazi of Iran, but that would just involve someone cutting them with a pocket knife and they're already short enough. I just have no idea how I ended up with that knot when most of the time, it's the opposite problem.

Never before have I seen so many canada geese on the MFA's lawn.

A woman with darkly green hair was talking about how people in didn’t realize that bread could grow moldy and used lead plates for eating. So what? Some things change, some things stay the same.

Fabric of a Nation, the quilt exhibit, was the special timed-ticket exhibition, not Ekua Holmes like I was expecting.

I learned that the US government had a policy of sheep-culling to force Diné to move to the reservations.

Bisa Butler - to God and Truth
It's an 1890s basketball team.
I like how it uses colors to suggest light and shadow.

Celestine Bacheller - Pictorial Crazy Quilt
Her father was mortally wounded at the Battle of Port Hudson, which was the end of Confederate control over the Mississippi.
These are scenes from an idyllic childhood around Lynn, MA.
There are some really dumb tlds nowadays. Dot luxury. I've seen dot wine.

Civil War Zouave Quilt
Named for an Algerian Igawawen regiment. None of the Zouave cadets had any link to North Africa, but they did wear uniforms inspired by them.

A Deeper Form of Chess

Mazloomi - Strange Fruit II
Lynchings had a sort of perverse carnival atmosphere to them.
All the quilts in this room had a message that even though slavery ended, the fight has only just begun.

Edith Morrow Matthews - The Spectrum

Augusta Agustsson - Blanket of Red
It was removed from an exhibition in Boston and some second wave feminists objected to it because… oh. Click the link because it's not safe for work.

Molly Upton - Watchtower

Larson & Soika - Nixon Resignation. JFK, FDR, and USG seem to have haloes above their heads. I thought it was because they died in office but USG didn't. Lady Liberty looks like Coach McGuirk's blow up doll.

Gio Swaby - Love Letter 5
A Bahamian. I love lots of things but I do not love autocorrect.

Sylvia Hernández - Howmanymore
A response to the Stoneman Douglas shooting.
I oft lament my inability to find reactions to Columbine as it happened. The reaction was vastly different from Parkland, in which kids took to the street demanding gun control. The social reaction after Columbine seemed to be "eh, guns are fine. Let's take out our frustrations on goth music, video games, and trenchcoats."

Carla Hemlock - Survivors
Kanien’kahá:ka artist. You can’t see it that well on this picture but the figures bear the names of indigenous groups of the US and Canada.

John Thomas Paradiso - Samuel Steward
He sewed images of male nudity together. It's safe for work because you can't see anything because apparently the internet of 2021 means keeping all the bad things from the internet of 2001 but none of the good things.

Susan Hoffman - Coastline

Virginia Jacobs - Krakow Kabuki Waltz

T.C. Cannon AKA Pai-doung-a-day, the one who stands in the sun.
a Cáuigù/Caddo/Français artist.
The signs above announce Art of the Americas in Spanish, Chinese, Haitian Creole, Japanese, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Farsi, Cape Verdean creole, French, and Portuguese.

Some new acquisitions were placed alongside older works in comparison.

Nick Lenker - Disembodied Gazer
Which is a misnomer because not only are all gazers disembodied, this is not a gazer at all but a medusa head. It’s digital images transferred onto a ceramic surface.

Tomashi Jackson - City of Quartz
I have no idea what Blob is. Some kind of cloud bullshit.

Joseph Lewis as Eze Nri
Eri Nri was the legendary first hierarch of the Ìgbò Ọ̀ràézè Ǹrì.

Eben Haines - Shelter in Place
Tiny Cedar Pod Blue

Annabeth Rosen - Stripe Pile Last

Dana Chandler - Fred Hampton’s Door
he was killed by a Chicago police raid.

Eamon Ore-Giron - Infinite Regress CV
Inspired by the night sky over deserts.

Judith Schaecter - Cross-Pollination
This one looks even better in real life.
Oh, they’re meant to look like the flowers that would flourish after total annihilation. That’s why they look more like prehistoric deep sea creatures than real flowers.

Kunié Sugiura - Genealogical Flora Fused

Omar Velázquez - Heron and Pana.
What’s a pana? you’re asking. I think it’s a predominantely Puerto Rican word for breadfruit. Or a friendo. Or chopped liver.
He likes to depict the interaction between birds and the human world that has encroached upon theirs and is currently discarding its refuse upon it.

Samantha Nye - Attractive People Doing Attractive Things In Attractive Places - Double Your Pleasure - Double Your Pleasure
That’s a lie. The webp format gives no pleasure.

Fan Darong - Movie Screening
He’s remembering his childhood during the 1960s watching a movie about what I assume is a woman’s brigade during either the Sino-Japanese War or the Chinese Civil War. I love the sky.

Lui Shtina - Concas
An Albanian artist who began his studies at the very tail end of the Hoxha regime, which, like all good quasi-leftist regimes, encouraged realist images of tractors and partisans. Yes, even Albania. Albania broke from the Soviet Union because Hoxha was justifiably paranoid, considering the Soviet Union’s tendency to invade and overthrow anyone who deviated from their version of Marxism-Leninism in any way. I assume Hoxha got away with it because they didn’t want to risk antagonizing Yugoslavia. I’m not sure how Romania got away with it. Maybe fear of NATO retaliation, as Ceaușescu was a conservative who kept all the communist imagery to not lose the USSR’s favor. Romania even sided with Democratic Kampuchea against the People's Republic of Kampuchea.
Concas is a surname. It doesn't seem to mean anything in Albanian.

Ilya Schor - The Milkman
Depicts everyday life in a Jewish village that is no longer.

Helen Redman - Enrobing
Helen Redman - La grassesse de Nicole

Boston Shawarma was open but I didn’t have that for lunch. Instead, I had grilled chicken with tomatillo salsa verde, grilled peppers and small onions, and some sort of fries. I don’t know. You don’t keep the menu afterwards. Next to me on one side was a conversation in what I think was Russian. Next to me on the other side was a conversation about using stem cells to cure diabetes but Bush caved to the religious right and screwed us. Next to them was a man with wedjat eye makeup.

burning question: why is Instagram? I get it. That’s why Statigram had to go. There are three kinds of people in the world. People who have Instagram accounts. People who are content to live their lives without getting an Instagram account because there are other better sites, and people who are content to live their lives without getting an instragram, and maybe they can convince the people in the second camp to get one because all the alternatives eventually go away.
But maybe The Zuck and friends can spend more time creating a useable site and less time trying to shut down any site that uses the Instagram API.
And the weirdest part is there is absolutely no one answering questions about why Instagram requires you to log in to see anything or even addressing this.
The world has miracles. They’re just not the kind of miracles that can save us.
For instance, MassMOCA is somehow still around.
When I originally posed this burning question, at least dumpor/picuki would let me do a location search. Not anymore.
The problem with Facebook and Google is that there’s no backlash for any of the dumb things they do. And that allows other companies to do dumb shit without any backlash.
