yamamanamaThe place was like, you know how in Indiana Jones, when Brody’s like “looks like a converted church.” This place was the opposite of that converted church in Venice, Italy. It’s like someone took a library or a large house and turned it into a church.
Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson opens with a cowboy singing of freedom on the lonesome prairie. The prologue sings of cattle, horses, sky, and grass, of Matthew Shepard in his life, of stories. One of the songs he liked in life was Frère Jacques, and I wonder if that was a nod to Mahler. The Passion has songs from the perspective of the fence. There are songs by Fred Phelps (who, I’ve learned, is dead and I am quite pleased by that fact) and a deer (single large doe in real life portrayed by a trio of women) and the stars and night sky. There is a song by someone afraid of seeing himself in the killers.
There was a woman whose face was painted stark white and blood red and I’m not sure why, because I don’t think she sung a major role.
There are scores written for larger musical ensembles, and there are scores for just piano. Here it was done with a percussion kit, a piano and Casio keyboard, and occasionally a violin and guitar. In one scene, the singers bang on hand drums and rattle maracas and shakers.
This was supposed to be performed two years ago, but the pangovirus happened. But it's somehow even more revelant now, with the book bans in various school districts and with DeSantis and his "Don't Say Gay" bill. I blame the fact that the right found an issue for which they could win in Virginia.

burning question: so speaking of DeSantis, Tulsi Gabbard just said that the Don’t Say Gay bill isn’t going far enough. Why hasn't Tulsi Does The Hula With Tiny Tulsitola just joined the Republican Party already?
