Sophia is an artist who works with acrylics and paints nature scenes and flowers because she’s not great with organic shapes. She had a song by Mama Cass stuck in her head. Her fried Yvie spells her name like that, though it sounds like Evie. There was a black shih tzu but I didn’t see him until I got off the train because it was pretty crowded.

The corridors were repainted. It’s hard to find pictures to compare them to because all the interior photos I can find online are of the concert hall itself. There’s a picture of Andris Nelsons standing on the stairs but there’s a yellow filter on it. There’s a picture of Andris Nelsons leaning against a wall but not only is there a sage green filter on it, I’m pretty sure that’s the stage.
Took me a while but the carpet was red and the walls were ecru. Now they’re white and the carpet’s blue.

Missa Solemnnis may mean solemn mass in Latin but it still has the full might of the orchestra behind it. It was meant to premiere with the 9th symphony but a) it would be way too long and b) masses weren’t allowed to be performed in a concert hall in those days in Vienna. Beethoven never heard it performed in his lifetime. I mean, he couldn’t hear it performed but you know what I mean. It premiered in St. Petersburg, Russia, of all places.
It’s his take on the music of Bach, Palestrina, and Handel. The tempo (and meter because it is a mass) jumps around but it’s never jarring. Beethoven reserves the soloists for moments of awe or supplication.

The benedictus here is lumped in with the Sanctus even though it has a brief instrumental praeludium. A violin joins in, not as a competitor like in a concerto but as if another vocalist.

In the Agnus Dei, distant martial trumpets interrupt their pleas for peace, but, at least in Beethoven’s ideals, peace triumphs. He never lived to see the trenches, or the terror bombing.

It was the first work performed in Symphony Hall.

Rose was the first person I drew in the new sketchbook which I brought along with me because I had four pages left of the previous one.

I met someone with a tattoo of a mermaid zombie on her arm.

burning question: you ever think about how Rouge the Bat technically has four arms?
