I beat Final Fantasy IV. I started it a few days ago after concluding that I could play through all the SNES Final Fantasies before The Wise Vivi becomes aware that I exist (and as far as I can tell, that only happens when Gamingforce is down and he wants me to know that)

It was good. Flawed enough to make it not the best Final Fantasy (I found VI, X, and XII more enjoyable), but good nonetheless. I give it four and a half rabites. It's quite minimalistic too. You don't have nearly the array of useless spells (1) that you have in Exile II (seriously, who used Protective Circle, anyway?), but you're missing several useful spells too. Like, uh, defensive ones that aren't healing. And antidote, so I don't have to waste twenty MP when someone gets poisoned. And Life-3, for when the monsters break through Rydia's crappy defenses (2).

It continues with the Final Fantasy tradition of breaking stereotypes (thieves can't steal in I, the black mage isn't hell-bent on destroying the world in IV - unless she's ruling hell while she's dead - and the final boss of V is a tree).

I'd like to know who's brilliant idea it was that Rosa could only use arrows. Because, really, you run out of them once you reach the point where you need to level up for the final boss and most monsters can be defeated by mashing the A button over and over and over, which means you RUN OUT OF ARROWS. Oh, well, Rosa has horrid offense anyway. Speaking of leveling up, I spent a fourth of the game there leveling up. Then I beat the final boss (and was really surprized when that happened) and didn't need Bahamut's help anyway.

(1) Realmz is quite possibly the biggest offender when it came to useless spells. There are three sets of spells, and as I remember, each of them had at least a hundred spells, and most of them were only used in very specific situations. Breathe underwater and traverse plane come to mind)
(2) You can try this yourself by wrapping yourself in toilet paper and picking a fight with the lions at the zoo. They really don't care if you're green or not.
